Featherlite trailer delivers new clothes to students in need.

The Assistance League of Los Angeles’ Operation School Bell rolls up to schools with their new, 48-foot Featherlite trailer. At each location, up to 300 K-5 students attending L.A. public schools — from low-income families to homeless children — will leave with some basics that can make school and life a little easier. Thanks to generous donations, all items given out are brand new.

Operated by volunteers, the group strives to leave each child with a week’s worth of new clothes. The Los Angeles Public School District provides the semi-tractor and logistics for each school visit throughout the year.
A Featherlite customer since 2003, the group’s roots go back to Hollywood actresses who, in 1919, wanted to give back to the community. Now 150-women strong, and part of the philanthropist Anne Banning Auxiliary, Operation School Bell served 6,200 school children in 2016 — 40% of whom were homeless.
“Our Featherlite unit is kid-friendly with plenty of storage, racks of clothes, four changing rooms, a ramp for loading carts of clothes and a 20-foot slide-out for even more room,” explained Kathryn Balzer, Chairman of Operation School Bell. “It was a pure pleasure working with Featherlite on the new trailer. They had great suggestions, awesome technical help and service and plenty of patience for our questions and evolving needs along the way.”
